Algerian forces arrests 12 terrorist supports, seizes heavy weapons

Twelve terrorist sympathizers were apprehended and an amount of weapons was confiscated in independent raids around the country by detachments of the People’s National Army (PNA) from April 17 to 22, the PNA stated in a communique.

“In order to continue counterterrorism activities against the complex organised crime, detachments and units of the People’s National Army conducted, between April 17-22, a number of activities which resulted in quality outcomes demonstrating the professionalism, alertness and constant preparedness of our armed forces across the country,”

the press release stated.

In the campaign against terrorism and “thanks to PNA actions, PNA units took control of 2 RPG-7 rocket launchers and 4 Kalashnikov machine guns in the 6th Military Region (MR), whereas other PNA squads captured 12 supporter terrorists in numerous procedures throughout national territory.”

During the struggle against organised crime, “the concerted efforts to confront the plague of drug trafficking in our nation, combined divisions of the Army have seized, in collaboration with various security forces, in procedures conducted in multiple military zones, 38 drug traffickers and blocked attempts to bring in nine quintals and 57 kilograms of cannabis resin from the boundaries with Morocco, and 310,506 psychotropic pills were confiscated.”

Additionally, last month, four terrorists also laid down their arms before military officials in Bordj Badji Mokhtar, with their Kalashnikov machine firearms and a cache of ammunition, reported the Algerian Ministry of National Defence on Monday in a statement.

“Within the battle against terrorism and through the action undertaken by detachments of the People’s National Army, four terrorists have surrendered to military authority in Bordj Badji Mokhtar (6th Military Region),” stated the source.

“This high-quality operation once again reflects the effectiveness of the approach adopted by the High Command of the People’s National Army to eliminate the scourge of terrorism and establish security and peace throughout the country,”

the source concluded.

These terrorists include Idabir Ighless, alias +Abou Meriem+, who had in his possession one Kalashnikov assault rifle and an amount of ammunition; Barbouchi Sidi, alias +Tarek+, who had in his possession one Kalashnikov assault rifle and an amount of ammunition; Mokhtari Aboubakrin, alias +El Moutana+, who had in his possession one Kalashnikov assault rifle and an amount of ammunition; and El-Omrani Abdellah, alias +Abou Moussa+, who had in his possession one Kalashnikov assault rifle and an amount of ammunition,” the same source stated.

“The superior operation once more proves the effectiveness of the methodology followed by the High Command of the People’s National Army in eradicating the plague of terrorism and enforcing security and peace across the country,”

the source added.
