Tehran and Islamabad boost defense collaboration to combat terrorism

A month ago, the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Baqeri, said Pakistan and Iran are growing military collaboration in various fields. Baqeri made the statements in Islamabad, where he arrived leading a high-ranking military representative at the behest of Pakistan’s army chief, General Asim Munir.

“Relations between the Iranian and Pakistani armed forces have been developing in recent years, and we have reached good agreements,”

Baqeri briefed journalists. He referred to the security problems within the long boundary between Iran and Pakistan. He said that the two nations are operating to shift common border areas into a “border of friendship for the two nations and a place for broad economic connections.”

“Iran and Pakistan are two major Muslim countries in the sensitive West and South Asia region and have extensive ties with each other,”

the top Iranian general stressed.

Major General Mohammad Baqeri, expressed Tehran and Islamabad have a joint stance on many problems that occurred in the area over the past year. Discussions with the Pakistani officeholders focused on regional developments so that the two neighboring nations would be capable of adopting a coordinated function in different international circles, Baqeri said.

The Pakistani and Iranian officials discussed the advancement of defence cooperation, especially in border regions and the fight against terrorism, as well as the most delinquent developments in the territory and the Muslim world. Top Military, political, and security officials discussed the arrangements previously inscribed between the two neighboring nations.

Moreover, last year, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran and Pakistan have resolved to improve their collaboration in combating terrorism and increase their fight against terror companies.

Araghchi spoke after talks with Pakistani officials concerning the latest movements of terrorist companies in the region at the end of his visit to the neighboring nation.

“Very good meetings were held, and very good agreements were made. We had an exchange of views about the region. Fortunately, both Iran and Pakistan stand in perfect sync with each other regarding what is happening in the region.”

he said.

Araghchi again reaffirmed that much discussion with Pakistani authorities on the region was involved, which included “both the issue of Afghanistan and the issue of how to deal with the phenomenon of terrorism existing on the borders of the two countries as well as the need for coordination between the two countries.”
