Tactics Institute Demands Immediate Action to Counter IS Expansion in Africa

The Tactics Institute urgently calls for immediate, coordinated international efforts to combat the rising threat of the Islamic State across Africa. The group’s escalating violence is a severe threat to regional security, stability, and fundamental human rights.

In the first half of 2024, IS claimed responsibility for 788 attacks worldwide, with a staggering 536 incidents occurring in Africa. These attacks resulted in the deaths of 2,142 people, highlighting the alarming growth and brutality of IS across the continent. Particularly affected is West Africa, where the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara (ISGS) are most active. Over half of the continent’s deaths from IS violence, totalling 1,115, were recorded in this region alone.

In Nigeria and Cameroon, ISWAP conducted 232 attacks, resulting in 649 deaths. ISWAP’s operations aim to disrupt local governance and control environments, extending their influence to Chad and Niger. Recent propaganda from ISWAP glorifies suicide attacks on military positions, showcasing the group’s relentless pursuit of terror and instability.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has also been severely impacted, with the Islamic State Central Africa Province (ISCAP) carrying out 135 attacks that resulted in 762 casualties. The Allied Democratic Forces, IS’s primary branch in Central Africa, has been responsible for nearly 150 deaths in eastern DRC in just ten days in June 2024. Their tactics include brutal executions and widespread destruction, further destabilizing an already volatile region.

The actions of IS in Africa represent a gross violation of international fundamental rights. The indiscriminate targeting of civilians, use of suicide bombings, and systematic destruction of communities are flagrant breaches of human rights and international law. The Tactics Institute underscores the necessity for immediate global action to address these atrocities and restore peace and stability.

The Tactics Institute for Security and Defense calls on the international community and regional authorities to take swift and decisive action. Our demands include Strengthening international military collaboration to dismantle IS networks and prevent the spread of their influence across Africa. Urge global powers to unify in their condemnation of IS activities and commit to long-term strategies for regional stability and peace.

The Tactics Institute stresses the importance of collective, coordinated action in combating the threat posed by IS. The international community must stand united in condemning these acts of terror and working towards a secure and peaceful Africa.

The Tactics Institute for Security and Defense calls on IS and all associated factions to cease all acts of violence and aggression immediately. The protection of peace, security, and human rights must be the utmost priority.
