Tactics Institute Urges Immediate Action to Address Rising Violence in Dagestan

The Tactics Institute for Security and Counterterrorism urgently calls for an immediate cessation of the ongoing violence in Dagestan. The recent attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala have resulted in a tragic loss of life and further threaten the stability of an already volatile region. This egregious violence must end to safeguard regional peace and uphold fundamental human rights.

The death toll from the recent attacks in Dagestan has risen to 20, including 15 police officers, several civilians, and an Orthodox priest, according to Russia’s Investigative Committee. Additionally, five attackers were reported to have been neutralized, and at least 12 people were injured during the incidents. The violence unfolded in the cities of Derbent and Makhachkala on the day of Pentecost for the Russian Orthodox Church, a festival meant to celebrate peace and unity.

These coordinated and violent attacks on civilian and religious infrastructure represent a severe threat to the fragile peace in Dagestan and the broader North Caucasus region. The deliberate targeting of religious sites, including a synagogue and Orthodox churches, aims to incite further sectarian violence and destabilize the region. Such actions are not only a direct threat to regional security but also a blatant violation of international human rights laws.

Despite Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov’s dismissal of a potential resurgence of widespread violence, the Tactics Institute stresses the need for vigilance and immediate action to prevent further deterioration of the situation. The presence of international terrorist organizations, as indicated by reports from the sources, underscores the urgency of a coordinated response to neutralize these threats.

The Tactics Institute reiterates that the actions of these belligerent groups are in clear violation of international human rights and counterterrorism laws. The global community must unite in condemning these atrocities and supporting efforts to restore peace and security in Dagestan.

The Tactics Institute calls for the immediate cessation of violence and urges all parties to uphold the principles of peace, tolerance, and respect for human rights. The international community must act swiftly to prevent further loss of life and ensure lasting stability in the region.
