Inside the FBI Cooperation with Police: Safeguarding Against Terrorist Threats

The FBI is the US’s top federal law enforcement agency for examining and preventing actions of domestic and international terrorism. It is the lead federal agency for investigating attacks concerning weapons of mass destruction—those concerning chemical, radiological, or biological agents or nuclear weapons. The FBI is also liable for specific terrorism-related offences, such as brutality at airports, money laundering, raids on U.S. officials, and others. The FBI also operates closely with police officials to gather and analyze intelligence on terrorism and other security threats. The police also play a crucial role in thwarting terrorism threats on American soil. Since the events of 9/11, law enforcement has successfully prevented numerous terrorism-related incidents.

It is the number one priority of the Police to protect the U.S. and U.S. persons and interests around the world from terrorist attacks and other U.S. intelligence agencies to collect and analyze intelligence on terrorism and other protection threats. It is the number one focus of the Police to guard the U.S. and U.S. persons and interests around the world from terrorist attacks.

Last year in December, Las Vegas police and the FBI intercepted a potential terror plot concerning a 16-year-old. During a news meeting, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials described an investigation into a terror threat on a social media platform. The picture of the threat was delivered by LVMPD officials.

It read: “Peace be upon all brothers who see this. I am here to announce that I will be starting lone-wolf operations in Las Vegas against the enemies of Allah. I ask you to make Dua for victory. I am a supporter of the Islamic State, and I will make sure the zionists in this city know it.” The post included an ISIS flag and words in Arabic.

Police immediately began a multi-agency investigation, officials stated, and increased security in the area. Within hours of placing the threat, police said they were capable of identifying the individual responsible and his location.

Police conveyed the suspect as a 16-year-old from Las Vegas who was a current convert to Islam. A search warrant was fitted, and the teenager was taken into possession without incident. A police search discovered components for building an improvised explosive device along with bomb-making formulae and instructions, Deputy Chief Dori Koren stated Friday.

Additionally, police discovered terrorism propaganda, a handcrafted ISIS flag, a headband and patches. Evidence also contained ISIS and Al-Qaida propaganda, radicalization materials, and guidance for executing a terrorist attack, investigators said. Police also discovered self-portraits of the suspect wearing the material and covered by propaganda, self-produced terrorism propaganda and anti-Semitic threats.

The teenager meets felony charges of terroristic threats, attempting to further an action of terrorism, providing material approval to a terrorist, terrorist organization, and/or act of terrorism, and five counts of custody of an explosive component. His name was not released due to his age.

Investigators stated there was no indication of a continued threat, calling it “isolated.”

Metro officials highlighted the department’s see something, express something message, and the extent of the community staying vigilant and identifying suspect activity.
