Nigerian Army Captured Notorious Terrorist Leader Habu Dogo

The Nigerian Armed Forces announced that the Nigerian Army’s troops in the North West have captured an infamous terrorist leader, Abubakar Ibrahim, also known as Habu Dogo. The arrest was deemed a notable achievement in continuing counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations, which persist in weakening the combat abilities of terrorists across the country.

Habu Dogo, a wanted terrorist on the watchlist of security agencies in both Nigeria and Niger Republic due to his cross-border movements, was apprehended in Rumji Village, Illela Local Government Area of Sokoto State. In addition, the army in the South East captured seven commanders and soldiers of the IPOB/ESN. Among those apprehended were Dr Nnamdi Chukwudoze and Chigozie Ezetoha, confined in Ihiala LGA of Anambra State. Ngozi Chukwuka and Oyekachi Ohia were arrested in Umuahia South LGA of Abia State, while Ifeanyi Eze, Augustine Udemba, Onyedikachi Udemba, and Elijah Mmaduipeya Obumneke were imprisoned in Umunneochi LGA, Abia State, and Orsu LGA, Imo State, respectively.

During this course, troops offset 187 insurgents and imprisoned 262 individuals. Additionally, 39 suspects engaged in oil theft were captured, and 147 hostages were saved. In the South-South, troops intercepted oil theft amounting to an assessed value of N1.2 billion, capturing 205 various weapons and 5,241 rounds of ammunition. Among the retrieved weapons were two G3 rifles, two PKT guns, 89 AK47 rifles, 22 manufactured rifles, 22 Dane firearms, two FN rifles, two handguns, and various locally made guns.

As reported by sources, the captured ammunition included 1,862 bands of 7.62mm superior ammo, 1,244 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 131 bands of 7.62 x 54mm, and 959 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm, among others. Other seized items included two baofeng radios, six automobiles, 29 motorcycles, and 55 communication devices.

Moreover, in the Niger Delta area, the army uncovered and eliminated 49 illicit crude oil cooking cookers, 11 dugout pits, 72 boats, 21 drums, 30 warehouse tanks, and 98 unauthorised refining locations. Retrieved items included four speedboats, one tricycle, four pumping devices, one outboard engine, two motorcycles, two mobile phones, three cars, 1,090,135 litres of looted crude oil, and 873,510 litres of illegally distilled Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
