The Tactics Institute for Security and Defense strongly urges all involved parties to reconsider plans to allow Ukraine to use Western-made long-range missiles. It included Anglo-French Storm Shadow and US Atacms, to strike deep into Russian territory. This action, if permitted, poses a severe threat to regional security and risks. It would further destabilise the already volatile situation in Eastern Europe. We call for the immediate cessation of actions that endanger peace and violate international norms.

The introduction of more advanced weaponry into the conflict, such as the Storm Shadow and Atacms missiles with a range of over 190 miles, would exacerbate the situation and could trigger devastating retaliatory measures. Russian forces, already emboldened by the recent supply of Iranian Fath-360 ballistic missiles. It may escalate its attacks on Ukrainian cities, including Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Kyiv, further endangering civilian lives.

The Tactics Institute emphasizes that this escalation cannot continue. The use of long-range missiles by Ukraine, with Western support, risks inflaming the conflict beyond Ukrainian borders. It would contravene international law, violate fundamental human rights, and further destabilize the global order. The Kremlin’s continued reliance on an attritional war strategy, coupled with its significant advantage in missile production—estimated to be 1,200 missiles annually—makes it clear that allowing Ukraine to strike deeper into Russia will only prolong the conflict.

The Tactics Institute calls upon all parties involved to adhere to the principles of international law. There must be a renewed push for diplomatic negotiations aimed at a peaceful resolution. The war’s intensification could result in a catastrophic cycle of retaliation. It will result in unpredictable outcomes for both the region and the world. As the U.S. and UK consider their next steps, the potential for miscalculation and civilian casualties looms large, further underscoring the need for restraint.
