The Tactics Institute for Security and Counter-Terrorism urgently calls on all concerned parties to halt actions exacerbating tensions in Lebanon and posing a significant threat to regional peace and stability. Recent aggressive statements by Israeli officials, coupled with Hezbollah’s growing military capabilities, risk plunging the entire region into conflict.
The situation in Lebanon remains precarious, with the country’s power grid already crippled by decades of mismanagement and economic collapse. Former Israeli war cabinet member Benny Gantz’s recent declaration of Israel’s capability to “plunge Lebanon into darkness” only heightens the existing volatility. Israel’s planned airstrikes to dismantle Hezbollah’s power pose a grave risk of escalating violence, and undermining regional security.
Since the inconclusive 2006 war between Israel and Hezbollah, both sides have been preparing for renewed conflict. Hezbollah’s arsenal, including an estimated 150,000 missiles and rockets, presents a formidable threat. Recent sophisticated attacks by Hezbollah on Israeli surveillance outposts and anti-drone defences further demonstrate their growing capabilities, highlighting the potential for significant casualties and widespread destruction on both sides.
The Tactics Institute demands that Israel and Hezbollah cease all provocative actions and adhere to international law, which mandates the protection of civilian lives and infrastructure. The planned Israeli strikes and Hezbollah’s retaliatory capabilities violate fundamental human rights and international humanitarian laws, particularly those protecting non-combatants in conflict zones.
Both parties must engage in diplomatic efforts to resolve their differences peacefully. The international community must also step up its efforts to mediate and prevent further escalation. Failure to do so will result in catastrophic consequences for both Israeli and Lebanese civilians, as well as broader regional instability.
The Tactics Institute calls on Israel to refrain from further threats and actions that could destabilize Lebanon and the wider region. We also urge Hezbollah to halt any military operations that threaten Israeli security. Immediate international intervention is crucial to prevent an all-out war and to uphold international peace and security.
