Tactics Institute Calls for Immediate Action to Mitigate Cybersecurity Threats to Paris 2024 Olympic Games

The Tactics Institute urgently calls upon international authorities and the cybersecurity community to take immediate and decisive action to counteract the unprecedented threat of cyberattacks facing the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Institute emphasizes that failing to address these threats could severely compromise regional security and peace.

As the world anticipates the Paris 2024 Olympics, cybersecurity experts are raising alarms about an imminent, widespread threat of cyberattacks targeting the event. Historical data shows that the Olympic Games have consistently attracted cybercriminals; the 2020 Tokyo Olympics alone faced 450 million attempted cyberattacks. However, the International Data Corporation (IDC) warns that Paris 2024 will encounter the largest number of threats and the most sophisticated ecosystem of threat actors to date.

The IDC report highlights that Paris 2024 will be the most connected Olympic Games in history, with numerous vulnerable targets including financial systems and critical infrastructure. The bustling nature of the event exacerbates these vulnerabilities, potentially destabilizing the entire region.

The Tactics Institute demands that the concerned parties, including national and international cybersecurity agencies, enforce stringent security measures to protect the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This includes bolstering defenses against ransomware, data exfiltration, social engineering, phishing attacks, and denial-of-service attempts. It is crucial that all entities involved comply with international cybersecurity laws and standards to ensure a unified and effective response to these threats.

Furthermore, the Institute stresses that cyberattacks on global sporting events not only violate international fundamental rights but also pose a significant risk to public safety and international relations. Politically motivated threat actors, including those from Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea, along with organized criminal groups and hacktivists, are identified as major risks. The potential disruption caused by these actors could have far-reaching consequences, undermining trust and cooperation among nations.

The Tactics Institute calls upon all concerned parties to immediately halt actions that threaten the cybersecurity of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The Institute reiterates the necessity for a coordinated global effort to protect this prestigious event, safeguard international peace, and uphold the principles of cybersecurity and international law.
