The Tactics Institute urgently calls on all parties involved in the conflict in Sudan to cease hostilities immediately. The recent surge in violence in the city of el-Fasher has resulted in the tragic loss of dozens of civilian and military lives, exacerbating an already dire situation.
The conflict in Sudan, which ignited in April last year due to a power struggle between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has led to devastating consequences. The latest outbreak of violence in el-Fasher, resulting in the deaths of at least 30 civilians and 17 soldiers, underscores the severe threat to regional stability and peace. The ongoing war has claimed thousands of lives, displaced nearly 9 million people, and triggered a looming famine and humanitarian crisis.
The violence, which initially erupted in the capital Khartoum, has since spread to Darfur, reviving old ethnic tensions and rivalries from the early 2000s. El-Fasher represents the last bastion of resistance in Darfur, with the RSF gaining control over most of the region. The fall of el-Fasher could lead to large-scale brutality against civilians and a deepening humanitarian disaster, as thousands remain trapped amid the fighting.
The Tactics Institute strongly condemns the actions of the RSF and the civilian groups supporting them, which aim to annihilate el-Fasher and establish a racially-driven militia state. These actions constitute grave violations of international fundamental rights and humanitarian laws. The international community must hold these belligerents accountable for their actions, which are causing immense suffering to the people of Darfur.
We call on the Sudanese government and the RSF to adhere to international humanitarian law, protect civilians, and allow for the safe passage of humanitarian aid. It is imperative that all parties return to the negotiating table to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
The Tactics Institute demands an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan to prevent further loss of life and to safeguard regional peace and stability. The belligerents must prioritize the well-being of civilians and work towards a sustainable and peaceful resolution to the conflict.
