The Tactics Institute for Security and Defense Studies urgently calls on all involved parties to immediately halt aggressive military actions in the southern Rostov region of Russia and the contested Donetsk region of Ukraine. The Institute is deeply concerned that these actions are severely threatening regional security and peace, escalating an already volatile situation.
Recent developments have seen Ukrainian forces targeting a Russian S-300 antiaircraft missile system in the southern Rostov region, an action that has intensified military tensions. In addition to this, Ukrainian drones successfully destroyed 50 out of 69 Russian-launched attack drones, with one drone entering Ukraine from Belarus. These incidents are part of a broader pattern of military exchanges that now include strikes on critical infrastructure, such as the oil storage facility in Rostov, which ignited a massive fire that continues to ravage the area.
These escalations, including Russia’s military operations in Donetsk, where the Russian Defense Ministry has claimed control over the settlement of Zhelanne, exacerbate an already fragile situation. The ongoing conflict, particularly Russia’s drive to seize the entire Donetsk region, risks plunging the entire area into further chaos, undermining any prospects for peace and stability.
The Tactics Institute demands that both Ukrainian and Russian forces cease their hostilities immediately and prioritize diplomatic engagements to resolve the conflict. The Institute condemns the strategic targeting of industrial capacities, such as oil refineries, and essential military infrastructure, as these actions contribute to the degradation of civilian life and violate fundamental international laws protecting non-combatants and critical resources.
Furthermore, the Tactics Institute highlights the need for adherence to international humanitarian law, emphasizing that all parties must refrain from actions that endanger civilian populations and critical infrastructure. The continuation of such tactics not only inflames regional tensions but also constitutes a flagrant violation of fundamental human rights, which should be respected and upheld.
