The Tactics Institute for Security and Counter-Terrorism strongly condemns the recent attacks on civilians in Sudan’s Gezira state. It has come to light that ongoing violence by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has led to the deaths of dozens. The RSF engaged in a prolonged conflict with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). RSF has intensified its assault on villages in east-central Sudan. The ongoing violence turned Gezira into a war zone marked by civilian casualties.
According to reports from aid groups and local organizations, RSF attacks have targeted multiple towns and villages in Gezira. It has resulted in the killing of at least 50 people in the village of al-Sireha alone. The rescue efforts were hindered by ongoing bombardments and sniper activity from RSF forces. The Sudan Doctors Union has declared the area a “brutal war zone.” It underscores the scale of devastation and the urgent need for humanitarian intervention.
The conflict in Sudan is driven by a power struggle between RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan “Hemedti” Dagalo and army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. The crisis has created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. The Tactics Institute is deeply concerned that the recent escalation in Gezira will lead to even more widespread displacement. It will further exacerbate the ongoing crisis and leave countless civilians without access to essential resources and safety.
The Tactics Institute calls upon the international community, including the United Nations and the African Union, to take immediate action to halt the violence in Sudan. We urge governments and humanitarian organizations worldwide to prioritize aid to the affected regions. They must ensure the safety of humanitarian workers, and support efforts to establish ceasefires and facilitate dialogue.
The Tactics Institute urges that all parties involved in the conflict must be held accountable for violations against civilians. We demand that those responsible for war crimes, including the targeting of non-combatants and the use of indiscriminate violence, be prosecuted under international law.
