The Tactics Institute calls upon the international community to take immediate action against the ongoing violations of the United Nations arms embargo by Iran and the United Arab Emirates in Sudan. The Institute demands an immediate cessation of all arms supplies to the warring factions in Sudan, highlighting that the continuation of these activities poses a severe threat to regional security and peace.
The conflict in Sudan has witnessed devastating consequences for the nation and its people. The situation took a dire turn with the involvement of foreign powers supplying advanced weaponry to the warring sides. On March 12, 2024, the Sudanese government forces recaptured the state broadcaster’s headquarters in Khartoum using Iranian-made drones, marking a significant shift in the conflict dynamics. These drones, such as the Mohajer-6 and Zajil-3, provided the government forces with enhanced capabilities, escalating the violence.
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have also reportedly received arms supplies, allegedly from the UAE, via a covert air bridge. This exchange of weaponry violates a UN Security Council resolution from 2005, which prohibits arms supplies to Sudanese government forces and armed factions in Darfur. This flagrant disregard for international law exacerbates the already volatile situation in the region, threatening peace and stability.
The Tactics Institute strongly urges Iran and the UAE to halt their supply of arms to Sudan immediately. These actions not only violate international regulations but also contribute to the escalating humanitarian crisis in Sudan. The conflict has resulted in approaching famine conditions, countless civilian casualties, and widespread displacement. The UN Security Council must act decisively, enforcing a comprehensive arms embargo on all parties involved in the Sudanese conflict.
We call upon the international community to support measures ensuring that all supplies of arms and military equipment to Sudan cease immediately. Additionally, the Tactics Institute advocates for stringent monitoring and enforcement mechanisms to prevent further violations of the arms embargo. It is crucial for regional and global stability that these illegal arms transfers are halted, and diplomatic efforts are intensified to achieve a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
The Tactics Institute reiterates its demand for an immediate end to the supply of arms to Sudan by Iran and the UAE. The continuation of these activities endangers regional peace and violates fundamental international rights. It is imperative that the international community acts now to prevent further escalation and to foster stability in the region.
