Tactics Institute sounds the alarm on continued violence in Gaza even after ceasefire

The Tactics Institute for Security and Peace continues to express much concern over this continuation of strikes by Israel after the announced Ceasefire-which, ironically, had struck Gaza within its first few hours, leaving up to 82 Palestinians dead-the majority of these being women and children. For this reason, the Institute finds it essential to call upon everyone involved to implement the ceasefire at all costs.

The violence has escalated following an agreement between Israel and Hamas to initiate a ceasefire, brokered in part by Qatar, set to begin on Sunday. Despite the announcement, Israeli forces have conducted multiple strikes, including attacks in Gaza City, the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, and the Bureij camp in central Gaza. Among the casualties, a single strike near the Engineers Union Building claimed 18 lives, and a drone strike in the Karaj area left five people dead.

The ongoing violence has extinguished the brief moments of celebration and hope among Gaza residents, highlighting the fragile nature of the truce. Both sides risk undermining trust in future peace efforts if these violations persist. The devastation in Gaza not only threatens immediate civilian safety but also destabilizes the broader region by fueling cycles of retaliation and deepening divisions.

Continued bombardment and attack on civilian targets in Gaza would be a flagrant violation of international law and the principles of distinction and proportionality as outlined by the Geneva Conventions. Hospitals, shelters, and densely populated neighborhoods are attacked, causing indiscriminate harm to civilians, which makes their suffering more tragic in an already catastrophic humanitarian situation. Such actions not only contravene legal norms but also erode the moral fabric of international conflict resolution efforts, further entrenching divisions and mistrust.

The Tactics Institute calls on both parties and the international community to take urgent steps. All attacks must halt immediately to honor the ceasefire and prevent further civilian casualties.

International observers should supervise the implementation of the ceasefire to facilitate compliance by both sides. Violations of international humanitarian law should be recorded and perpetrators found guilty of targeting civilians and non-combatants.

The urgent requirements of the displaced families, injured, and larger population should be addressed through unlimited humanitarian aid in Gaza. Meaningful dialogue, particularly regarding territorial issues, security matters, and violations of human rights, must be resumed as well. The institute further calls attention to the indispensable role that international actors, like the United Nations, must take in facilitating and enabling sustainable peace.

The Tactics Institute appeals to all stakeholders to prioritize human lives and dignity above military objectives. A genuine commitment to peace and adherence to ceasefire agreements are essential steps to restore stability, alleviate human suffering, and pave the way for a durable resolution to the conflict.
