Tactics Institute Urges Immediate Action to Address Growing Tensions over African Economic Integration

The Tactics Institute for Security and Defense calls for urgent and coordinated action to address the escalating tensions and geopolitical divisions that threaten regional security, peace, and the economic integration of Africa. The increasing diplomatic disputes, internal conflicts, and shifting global alliances pose significant risks to the progress made towards creating a single African market under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Africa has made considerable strides towards economic integration, with the AfCFTA ratified by 54 countries. This agreement aims to facilitate the movement of goods, services, and people across the continent, fostering shared prosperity. However, several obstacles stand in the way of the agreement’s full implementation. Infrastructure deficits, weak institutions, political instability, and the challenge of managing transactions in 42 different currencies have hindered progress.

The ongoing conflicts and political tensions are not only economic issues but also human rights concerns. Historical territorial disputes, political factors linked to separatist movements, and climate change pressures on natural resources are intensifying these conflicts. The resulting violence and instability violate international fundamental rights and undermine regional stability.

In the Horn of Africa, the diplomatic crisis between Kenya and Sudan, and between Somalia and Ethiopia, is a prime example of how political actions can escalate into broader conflicts. The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) dispute between Ethiopia, Egypt, and Sudan is another critical issue with the potential to trigger a proxy war. These disputes threaten to disrupt the fragile peace in the region and hinder economic cooperation.

Tactics Institute for Security and Defense demands all African nations prioritize diplomatic engagement and conflict resolution to address and resolve disputes that threaten regional stability. The Tactics Institute emphasizes the importance of collective action and international cooperation to overcome the obstacles hindering African economic integration. Resolving these critical issues is essential for the continent’s long-term stability and prosperity.

The Tactics Institute for Security and Defense urgently calls on all parties involved in regional disputes and conflicts to cease hostilities immediately. The protection of peace, security, and human rights must be the utmost priority to ensure the successful realization of the African Continental Free Trade Area and the broader vision of a united and prosperous Africa.
