The Tactics Institute has condemned in strongest terms the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announcement of working with a planned administration in Sudan, terming the move a dangerous step towards the partition of the country. The Institute appeals to RSF to stop its activities and for international stakeholders to take concrete measures concerning the crisis that deepens and is undermining sovereignty over Sudan and regional stability.
The Sudanese civil war has been in headway for 20 months, causing extreme damage to the country. The RSF currently dominates huge portions of Khartoum, Darfur, and central Sudan. These groups are accused of ethnical cleansing and other violent practices. More than 12 million people have been made to flee their homes while tens of thousands have been killed.
The RSF’s support for a civilian-led “peace government” in territories it controls presents a stark challenge to the internationally recognized administration in Port Sudan. This move risks deepening the conflict and setting a precedent for other armed groups, undermining peace and security in the Horn of Africa.
In this regard, the Tactics Institute urges RSF immediately to stop its attempts to declare a parallel administration since any such move contravenes Sudan’s territorial integrity as well as international standards. The international community must hold the RSF accountable for reported war crimes, including ethnic cleansing in Darfur, and impose targeted sanctions to curtail their influence.
The Tactics Institute urges all parties to respect Sudan’s sovereignty and appeals to the RSF to immediately stop any moves towards partition. Both the RSF and the Sudanese army must commit to a ceasefire and inclusive peace talks under neutral mediators. Without this, foreign interference and unchecked territorial claims will push Sudan toward permanent fragmentation, destabilizing the broader region.
