Polish Authorities Uncover Sabotage Network Behind Explosive Parcels

Poland security authorities arrested four saboteurs who had been involved in sending packages with explosives with the service of transportation companies. This story was briefed by the Polish media outlet RFM24. The Polish National Public Prosecutor’s Office says four individuals have been apprehended for international sabotage and subversion. Two more pinpointed offenders have been put on an international wanted list.

Now, efforts are being taken to demonstrate the full scope of persons involved in this group’s activities. This includes collaborating with law enforcement agencies of other EU countries.

The group’s activities consisted of actions of sabotage and subversion on the sending of parcels, including the camouflaged explosives and the dangerous materials that spontaneously combusted or exploded during land and air transportation to the European Union and the United Kingdom through courier companies,

prosecutor Katarzyna Kaluv-Yashevska remarked in a press release.

As reported by authorities, the group’s objective was to establish a channel for moving this type of cargo to the United States and Canada. In addition to the four imprisoned and arrested individuals, two more are wanted; according to Gazeta Wyborcza, a courier business truck burned down near Warsaw as a result of the group’s actions. Blazes also broke out in a warehouse in the UK and at an airport in Germany.

As one example of sabotage, the case in mid-July is cited. At that time, the saboteurs sent a packet with a timer and a flammable substance from Vilnius. The plane narrowly dodged catching fire thanks to an unexpected two-hour delay, controlling the packages from entering the aircraft. Instead, the fire broke out in a storage at Leipzig Airport. According to Gazeta Wyborcza, investigators doubt that Russian intelligence agencies are behind the saboteurs’ actions.

Poland’s Foreign Minister blamed Russia for attempting to carry out a sabotage in the country. In this regard, Radoslaw Sikorski reported the closure of the Russian Consulate General in Poznan.

The arrested potential saboteur confessed that it had been the Russian special services that had ordered him to commit arson in Wroclaw. We have other similar arson attacks across Europe and are aware of Russia’s further plans.

the minister said.
