Spanish Police uncover jihadist cells operating in encrypted messaging groups

Spanish Police have arrested 10 Pakistani Muslim nationals in Barcelona on charges of provoking killings and beheading to avenge ‘blasphemy.’ The Pakistani nationals charged with terrorism-related indictments were part of an organized criminal network and were operating messaging groups to administer violent jihadist orders. The captured jihadis were connected to the Pakistani Islamic terror outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Police arrested the suspects after a joint operation carried out by the Mossos d’Esquadra, Spanish National Police, and Italian law enforcement agencies. The Spanish authorities, in a statement, stated that the arrested Pakistani nationals employed encrypted communication channels to brainwash followers and determine potential targets in Europe for assaults and beheadings.

The Spanish National Police stated that there was a women-only online group run by one of the apprehended women, where the members exchanged shared Islamic jihadist content and selected targets for attacks.

On 6th March 2025, the arrested indicted were presented before Spain’s Central Investigation Court No. 6. The accused Pakistani jihadis faced indictments including terror funding, promoting extremism, and backing radicalization. The judge called provisional imprisonment for four of the jihadis for their alleged complicity in crimes of glorification, apologia, support, and promotion of Islamic terrorism.

Spanish National Police reported the inquiry is part of the third phase of a continuous operation. This campaign has yielded 30 detentions in Spain over the past three years. Among those captured on 3rd March 2025, ten were gripped in Barcelona and its metropolitan region, while one was captured in Italy.

“During the operation, which was carried out on Monday, March 3, 11 people were arrested, ten during the early hours of Monday, in the city of Barcelona and its metropolitan area, and another of the arrests the same day in Piacenza (Italy),”

the Spanish authorities stated.

This Jihadi terror network allocation came mostly from regular donations from its members, making a self-sustaining method for its jihadist movements.
