Qatar is a global leader in counter-terrorism measures, functioning with the United Nations, the United States, and other countries to fight terrorism and extremism. The State of Qatar participated in the 27th session of the permanent expert group on the role of Arab media in countering terrorism, which was carried out at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
The State of Qatar was represented at the meeting by a panel from the Qatar Media Corporation (QMA) led by HE Chairperson of the Permanent Committee at the Arab League and Media Advisor to the Corporation Abdulrahman bin Nasser Al Obaidan. Qatar is a significant contributor to the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF), which seeks to strengthen resilience against violent extremism.
The meeting concerned following up on the implementation of Resolution No. 548 of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, given at the regular session 54 on the function of Arab media in countering the phenomenon of terrorism, in addition to following up on the undertaking of the executive program for the joint Arab media approach to combat terrorism and readying for the eighth conference session on the role of Arab media in countering terrorism.
Plenipotentiary Minister and Director of the Technical Secretariat of the Arab Information Ministers Council at the Arab League, Faleh Al Mutairi, said that the meeting concerned the axes of the Arab media strategic intent and its activation to fight the phenomenon of terrorism on several axes, including the phenomenon of child recruitment and electronic games that provoke terrorism.
In this regard, Al Mutairi indicated that the Arab member states have assumed several activities during the period between 2024 and 2026 to enforce the axes of the Arab media strategy to combat terrorism, citing also cooperation with Naif University for security sciences regarding the enactment of some related programs, in addition to Jordan hosting a meeting in this regard next January.
