The United States executed precision airstrikes in Syria resulting in the extinction of 37 terrorist operatives, including senior executives from ISIS and the Al Qaeda affiliate, Hurras al-Din. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that the two targeted strikes sought to disrupt terrorist activities.
“CENTCOM Forces performed two targeted strikes in Syria, destroying 37 terrorist operatives, including numerous senior leaders of the terrorist organisations of ISIS and Hurras al-Din, an Al Qaeda affiliate,”
the statement stated.
The airstrikes are part of continued efforts to counter terrorist movements in the region. CENTCOM highlighted its mission to prevent attacks against civilians and military personnel.
“The airstrikes are part of CENTCOM’s ongoing dedication, along with partners in the region, to disrupt and subvert efforts by terrorists to plan, organise, and execute attacks against civilians and military personnel from the US, our allies, and our associates throughout the region and beyond,”
CENTCOM said.
These recent airstrikes follow a prior operation on September 24, which resulted in the demise of nine terrorist operatives, including Marwan Bassam ‘Abd-al-Ra’uf, a senior boss of Hurras al-Din. CENTCOM mentioned the importance of the strike against ‘Abd-al-Ra’uf, who headed military operations. Earlier, on September 16, CENTCOM forces performed a large-scale airstrike on an ISIS training base in central Syria, killing 28 ISIS detectives, including four senior leaders.
Moreover, ISIS attacks in Syria this year have also involved more significant numbers of fighters working in the open for more lengthy periods; this suggests a far more splendid willingness to potentially lose personnel in battle and indicates recruitment is no longer a problem. ISIS attacks are also increasingly entering urban areas and striking more strategic targets, like oil and gas installations and military checkpoints. The group’s “shadow governance” is also back, with a well-collective extortion network again widespread and ISIS militants issuing bespoke “taxation” invoices to local businesses and executing commercial trucking customs duties on main streets.
Gen Michael Erik Kurilla, leader of US Central Command, reaffirmed CENTCOM’s commitment to combating these terrorist organisations.
“These strikes against leadership and operatives of ISIS and the Al Qaeda affiliate, Hurras al-Din, represent CENTCOM’s dedication to the enduring defeat of terrorist organisations in the CENTCOM area of responsibility and our support to regional stability,”
he stated.
