Swedish security authorities announced that they had arrested one person in the Stockholm region on suspicion of planning terrorist crimes in a case involving violent Islamist extremism.
The individual was suspected of preparing for a terrorist offence, aggravated involvement in a terrorist organisation, preparation for tried murder and planning to break legislation on the use of explosives, Swedish police said. The probe was not connected to any earlier ongoing cases, police said in a statement.
Police carried out the raids in the capital area, and the detention unfolded calmly, they added. Initially, it occurred Without pinpointing the suspect or giving particulars on the potential target. In 2023, Sweden elevated its terrorism alert to the second-highest level. It cautioned against threats against Swedes at home and abroad after public scorchings of the Quran were widely criticised with anger among Muslims and threats from jihadists.
Moreover, a few days ago, a court in Stockholm sentenced a Swedish lady to genocide, crimes against humanity and horrendous war offences perpetrated in Syria in 2015 against women and kids of the Yazidi religious minority, convicting her to 12 years in jail. The woman recognised as Lina Ishaq, came back to Sweden in 2020 and is presently serving time for other crimes committed in Syria.
“The crimes constitute an exceptionally serious violation, not only of the life and integrity of specific individuals but also of fundamental human values and humanity,” Stockholm’s district court ruled.
“The woman kept them imprisoned and treated them as her property by holding them as slaves for a period of, in most cases, five months,”
the court stated.
According to Sweden’s intelligence service Sapo, approximately 300 Swedes or Swedish citizens, a quarter of them women, became part of IS in Syria and Iraq, mainly in 2013 and 2014. “Through her actions, the woman upheld the imprisonment and the enslavement of the injured parties initiated by IS (Islamic State),” the court ruled.
