Nigerian Military Arrested Terror Leader Tied to Sokoto Monarch’s Killing

The Nigerian military has arrested a terror leader tied to the killing of a monarch in Sokoto. It has been announced that the arrested terrorist was a resolute supporter of a wanted high-profile terrorist, Bello Turji. Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, expressed that the apprehended terrorist leader, Bako Wurgi, eventually surrendered to gunshot wounds sustained during the firefight.

Maj. Gen. Edward Buba reported that forces are on high alert and have improved readiness to defend the country from further terrorist attacks, especially during the yuletide. Strong operations targeted at terrorist supervision are being executed across the various theaters of operations. Particularly, high-profile terrorists specified as Hamisu Sale and Abubakar Muhammad were apprehended during separate procedures performed in the NC theater of operation.

Meanwhile, security forces annihilated 212 terrorists and captured 272 others. Troops also apprehended 45 perpetrators of oil robbery and rescued 152 abducted hostages. In another story, a notification by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, expressed that the Army Council on Thursday, December 19, 2024, authorised the promotion of senior officials to the next ranks of Major General and Brigadier General, respectively. According to him, “Around 35 Brigadier Generals have been upgraded to the rank of Major General, while 73 Colonels have also been promoted to the rank of Brigadier General accordingly.

Newly promoted officeholders are tasked with leading their associates by example and evolving “out of the box” concepts and innovations to speedily embark on contemporary security challenges plaguing Nigeria. Maj. Gen. Edward Buba added that they must remain determined to their oath of loyalty to protect the nation at all times and keep an unalloyed commitment to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
